Health & Medical

Pullman Regional Hospital (Pullman, WA), Whitman Hospital and Medical Center (Colfax, WA), Gritman Medical Center (Moscow, ID)  and various Medical Clinics, Assisted Living and Nursing Home Facilities exist in numerous locations throughout the county. Emergency Medical Technicians and first responders operate ambulances out of most locations. Ambulances make runs to Pullman, Colfax and Spokane area hospitals. Air ambulance service also serves the area out of Spokane. All emergencies are routed through WHITCOM, a regional Enhanced 911 service, located at the Port of Whitman’s Pullman Industrial Park.

Civil Services

Washington State Patrol, Whitman County Sheriff’s Department, and local police departments provide police service throughout the county. There are fourteen fire districts and two city fire departments operate in the county.

Airports

The Pullman-Moscow Regional Airport serves to connect this unique area with the rest of the Pacific Northwest, making it affordable and convenient to travel to and from the Palouse. Other nearby airports include Lewiston-Nez Perce County Regional Airport Spokane International Airport and other General Aviation and Private Airports.

Motor Freight

Several major motor freight companies service Whitman County. Numerous regional and local trucking companies offer service connecting the Palouse to the Pacific Northwest hub and beyond.

Inland Port Facilities

The Port of Whitman manages inland industrial sites in Pullman, and Colfax and on-water facilities at the Port of Wilma near Clarkston, Washington, Port of Central Ferry and at the Port of Almota. The latter three offer access to shipping on the Columbia/Snake River system. Rail access serves many areas.

Washington State University

Washington State University (WSU) is one of the oldest land-grant universities in the American West and features programs in a broad range of academic disciplines. With an undergraduate enrollment of 24,470 and a total enrollment of 29,686, it is the second largest institution of higher education in Washington state behind the University of Washington. The WSU Pullman campus is perched upon a hill, characterized by open spaces, views, deep green conifers, and a restrained red brick and basalt material palette--materials originally found on site. The university is nestled within the rolling topography of the Palouse in rural eastern Washington and remains intimately connected to the town, the region, and the landscape in which it sits.
